most of the people had sizable balls in the past.

here's a link to an actual pa kahawai:

you'd be surprised how much a nutsack can stretch. you have to stretch it yourself, not a woman. they don't do it quite right.

a couple of years ago i bought a lot of half made dominoes from an estate sale of an elderly man who had died. i pried off the ivory part and used it for carving.

the first piece i made was this:

i still have it. i'm going to be casting some silver ones soon as pendants.

the next piece was this:

gave those to a girl in exchange for a ticket to hawaii. i guess it was a pretty fair trade.

i'm working on a new set now, the earrings are almost done:

and i'm making a matching pendant.

I like the earrings!  I think my favorite piece of the ones you've posted is the rosewood hook with the jade hook close behind.

would you like the ivory earrings, feffer? if so, then they're yours.

!!  Thanks!  How big are they?  I'm not one to wear very long danglies, but if they're relatively small...

That's an excellent re-use of ivory. :D

they're about 1 1/4". the picture i posted is on my knee in jeans.

i'll shoot you the details in a PM. the only caveat is i'd like to make molds so i can cast them in silver. ;) it may take a few more days until they're done.

i usually just gift my original art. just so's people know. if i ever ask if anyone is interested in something, i'm not selling.

thanks, zorg. the ivory is between 40-70 years old. the daughter of the man couldn't give me an exact date. she was in her later years herself and just knew her dad had been making those things for years when she was a little girl.

here are the earring pre-hole tucked into a little box frame ready for molding.

and here they are snuggled under silicone rtv. it's a pretty flexible rubber.

now in about 12 hours it will time to demold. takes a little less time in the summer. less humidity and warmer.

Wow!  Really beautiful stuff.  I know a guy - they guy I worked with at the Ren Faire that one weekend, for those following along - who works in stone, bone, ivory, and antler, but he's been doing larger-scale stuff lately.
