Right. I think if we actually got to watch some of the competition, it might be possible for me to get excited about the Olympics. But, really, we don't. I mean it's not possible to watch, for example, the 100m sprint final (which takes, ooh, 15-20 seconds from on your mark to the winner draping himherself in the national flag) without enduring two hours of talking heads, biographical crap, inspirational music, and words from our corporate sponsors. And do we get to see any of the preliminaries? Um, no. That might cut into valuable time required for Bob Costas to talk about his visit to the Olympic Village.
So I'm torn. I could watch sports pretty much all day and love it, and it's great to see the best in the world against each other. But we actually don't get much of that. I'd say two minutes every hour of actual competition. Okay, five. Can't stand that.
