One our senior partners wants me to stop ordering paper from our current vendor and get it from another vendor because he doesn't like where our current vendor puts the paper boxes when they deliver.
I need this done ASAP, or whenever you can get around to it.  Tomorrow is fine.

That reminds me of something my friend told me about her job.  A coworker didn't like where the cleaning ladies put the garbage cans, so she tried to rally all the other women to throw their used paper towels on the floor where she wanted.

The delivery guys from UPS and FX come to each department office in our building. However they don't like to wait for the elevator to come back so they lie their dollies down across the door while they're on each floor. The elevators hate this, and scream and beep and ring bells and lurch the doors partially closed to emphasize the point and we have to listen to it all.

There's no point in complaining, they would just refuse to deliver to the floor and would just dump all the packages in the road or something.

This shit ... really bugs me sometimes.

I no longer have to put up with stupid shit at work! :headbang:

Got canned last night over the phone. Classy.

I'm focusing on the complete lack of bullshit in my day instead of the lack of a paycheck thing.

For now.

That truly sucks   but I guess it's good not to work for someone (and by someone, I mean some asshole) who would do that over the phone.  My SO has been out of work for over a year and a half now.  Lucky for us he's handy and can make an ok living on his own.

Yeah, I mean I'm honestly pretty happy about it. I'm a little concerned financially, obviously, but I'm in a WAY better place than I was last time I was unemployed. I got out of debt and saved some, so I'm not on the street yet, but I know those touch holes will fight my unemployment.

My best friend at work was canned a few weeks ago. He's a quiet, introverted tech type (shocker, I know). I mention that because he's easy to intimidate and they took full advantage of that. They fired him for not returning a call on a weekend when he wasn't even on call. Then told him he couldn't tell anyone he was fired and if he said anything bad about Edcomm, they'd "make his life a living hell" (I can quote that because he has the whole meeting recorded). They said if he cooperated, they would give him a glowing recommendation and wouldn't fight his unemployment. Well, he didn't say shit (it took a lot for me to get the truth out of him) and they still screwed him. Contested his filing by saying he was fired for willful misconduct.

That was about the time I gave up on looking to the law for justice with these people.

The funny thing is that they are so fucking stupid they don't even realize any one of the tech guys they've fired could bring the company down. Literally halt its entire operation within a couple minutes (and that's just the technical approaches). I'm not going to do anything drastic unless I need to, but you guys know I don't take kindly to bullying. I'm more than willing to play a few rounds of Who's Got More To Lose with them. I'm that asshole that will spend $10k to get the $1k you owe me.

edit - I hope I got to the ' in its before Tal read this!

What the hell?!  Didn't you like this company before?  I guess they weren't showing their real dysfunction then.  How do you end up working for jackholes and morons all the time?

Fight the bastards.  It's SOP to dispute unemployment claims.  If they fight take it to the Administrative Law Judge and more than likely you win.  YMMV depending on state.  I've had to do this twice now.  Both times I won, but then again we're an "at will" state and pretty much gross misconduct is the only thing that will amount to firing for cause (and most companies document like crap)

Ooooof.  I've been unemployed for a year and a half now too.

Make sure you sign up for unemployment as soon as possible to get the ball rolling.  It takes several weeks for it to kick in.

Yeah, you just have to be diligent about it. If the labor laws up there are like they are down here, it's very unlikely you would be denied. The burden of proof is on them, and they have to prove a lot, not just say you broke a rule or something like that. You may have to make several trips for hearings and crap, but it's worth it. Some of the things they might make the employer show is the employee manual, records of verbal warnings and written warnings, etc.
It's symbolic of our struggle against reality.
