The Rays will be back in contention next year, I bet. They had a great season.

I hope so.  This has been the YankSox division for so freakin' long.  I like what Joe Maddon said to his guys post-series:  that they should be proud of themselves and this is just the beginning of their success.  That tough part is that unless they win the Series next year, their year will be called a disappointment.

I would just like to say for the record that if I was a dude, and was even remotely into sports, I'd be all over you. A chick who actually digs sports because she is actually interested in them? They should be lining up to toss rose petals at your feet! Bathing your feet in lavender water!

Wait a minute, I'd do that anyway.  :smooch:  ;)

You'd be amazed how little traction it gets me.  Next time I'm in your neck of the woods, though, watch out!   ;)

And as to the YanksSox division, it's now the JaysSox, with the Rays bringing up the rear at a shocking .381 win %.

I thought McGwire had already done the steroids scandal.  Man, I can't even keep track.

The elephant under the Sportscenter desk is that this obviously isn't just a baseball problem.  The NFL's probably the only other major sports organization likely to draw strong attention from Congress, though.

I enjoyed this article about McGwire this morning.

So after all this shit, Pete Rose is still banned from baseball?  :eyeroll:

I've been wanting to do it for a long time, starting sometime after the last day on which they could have taken away the money they paid me.

The extra-stupid thing is that steroids probably didn't significantly help him hit home runs.  It's not pure power that makes you a power hitter.  It's mostly timing and control.  Maybe the other drugs helped, I don't know, but there's a good chance that if he could set the record on 'roids, he could've set the record without them.  But now he'll never know.  Asteriskin' bastid.

Which is why HGH bothers me more than the 'roids.  The HGH kept his body from breaking down over the course of a season.  It's a lot easier to hit a baseball when your body does what you tell it to do.  Bonds tried to make the same claim as McGwire and they're both full of shit.  If it didn't help, then why'd they keep using.

Yeah, I mean -- they knew it wasn't allowed, and they knew it probably gave them an unfair advantage over people who were following the rules.  That's what cheating is.

Honestly, I don't care if they let him coach hitters.  But they should take away his batting record, for sure.

I think the answer for why they continued is tied to the crazy beliefs in wearing one special garment or spinning in a circle two and a quarter times when going up to bat, or whatever. There is so much chance going on, and they want to believe they are controlling it.

Well well well. The Rangers have gone broke, and A-Rod's their #1 creditor. Are these things connected~?~??~?!?!? :harumph:
And they say a consortium led by Nolan's gonna buy them. I can't imagine how they could do worse than the previous owners, like that guy who ordered Sosa to be traded. What was that dork's name?

But that's not the real news. I can't believe Jose Lima died. I figured he wasn't getting back into the majors, ever, but I kind of figured he'd be like Rickey, going on playing in ever diminishing sandlot leagues FOREVER.

That dork was a cheerleader, you may remember.  He didn't know anything about baseball.

I can't believe we are one blown call away from three perfect games so far and it's only June.

Poor kid.  Poor ump.  No to instant replay.

Also:
I wouldn't be surprised at all if Jimenez gets another no hitter this year for the Rockies.  He's crazy.
