Is this a government building?

You reminded me of something I saw the other day, totally unrelated. A family of ducks, walking in a row as they do, with a crow at the end of the line, hopping along. The mother duck didn't find it amusing and quickly put an end to it.

I was quite literally just having a relevant conversation with Roger today. Everything eats baby ducks. That crow would have snagged one at the earliest opportunity and had a little duck snack. That's why momma duck had to cut a bitch.

Yeah, I've heard of largemouth bass eating baby ducks. Irresistible in many ways, I guess.

Sandhill cranes sound kinda like pigeons cooing nearby, when they are actually really far away. They don't really sound like pigeons, but that might be what you assumed they were when/if you've heard them. I'm sure it's on youtube, if not, Cornell has recordings of about every living thing in the U.S. Whenever I'm trying to identify a bird, I start with the Wikipedia "birds of [state]" page, which narrows things down and splits them into categories.

I don't know what the black birds are. The park I mentioned has ospreys and bald eagles, each nesting at opposite ends of the lake. They battle when paths are crossed.

Today I saw a dog in a life vest swimming alongside someone in a kayak. It swam all the way across a 250 acre lake. That dog will sleep well tonight.

Ok, yes Axe, those are sandhill cranes.  We have many of those around where I live, and they can be surprisingly large if you're not expecting to encounter one up close.

The other birds you're describing make me think of turkey vultures. We also have a lot of those around where I live (in the summertime, anyway; they migrate south for the winter).

:hmm:

Wikipedia suggests turkey vultures are even bigger, though, and not black enough.  And they have those spread-finger wings.

Maybe these are just some weird subspecies of ravens.  Almost all our ravens and crows vanished about a decade back, I guess, during one of the bird flu epidemics.  They've been coming back, but they said on the news that some of the crows we have are actually a slightly different type that didn't used to live around here.  They just moved into the crow vacuum the virus left behind.

I suppose they could be some kind of raven.  You're right, turkey vultures are pretty big.

Yeah, I don't know.  Aside from being bigger than crows, the main distinguishing characteristics of these birds are being all-black and having those smooth wings.

Beats me . . . but I can't identify more than 5% of the birds that visit the feeders in my yard.

I was hoping that they'd go on unrecognized so I could suggest a Chupacabra.  We have lots of huge raptors here, buzzards, turkey vultures, hawks.  A little south and we can see a few of the remaining condors.

Apparently somewhere on campus they're selling VOTE FOR PEDRO T-shirts.

This cracks me up more than it should, maybe.  Is there a TV show now or something?

Today's unexpected Banggood product:

Penis-shaped fishing lures

Judging from the sidebar, they have these in a whole range of sizes.  :nonplused:

That's puzzling. I mean, who is the target market here?

Besides the fish.

you'd be surprised how much a nutsack can stretch. you have to stretch it yourself, not a woman. they don't do it quite right.

I'm generalizing from one example here, but everyone generalizes from one example. At least, I do.
