Cause you're so beautiful
Like a tree
Or a high-class prostitute
You're so beautiful
Mmm, you could be a part-time model
But you'd probably have to keep your normal job

Quote
Clarissa is a little girl in her own story arc who is sort of my response to the cute goth girl genre, such as Lenore or Emily.

It's OK.  The art is pretty sharp; the writing's uneven.  Dark is right.  Isn't Lenore the one about the dead girl people don't realize is dead who keeps killing the kids she babysits?  I wouldn't have said it was in the "cute" genre, more the intentionally uncute.  I know Lenore is meant ironically, but setting out to write a dark parody of it seems kind of pretentious, which sort of undercuts the theme of Clarissa.

I mean, if you have something to say, that's fine, but if you're just doing it to be outre, there are still lines that are less funny if you cross them just for the sake of crossing them.  So if it's meant to be funny and out-there, it's pushing its luck a bit, and if it's meant to be serious, it's OK but not Phoebe Gloeckner.

I read some but didn't bother hunting them all down, is what I guess it boils down to.

OK, I really need a link here.

I ended up reading a 12 comic arc that was a translation of a Korean gag comic retelling the 17th century story Clarissa.

That can't be what I was supposed to be reading can it?

http://foro.khmaniacs.com/t16016/clarissa-webcomic/

there's some panels missing, but you can fill in the blanks or google a little deeper to find them.
you'd be surprised how much a nutsack can stretch. you have to stretch it yourself, not a woman. they don't do it quite right.

OK, I prefer the bizarre Korean thing.

That was not even remotely funny.
No redeeming qualities.

There has to be something lost in the translation.

It is incoherent - but not a repugnant as the other one.

I see.

I hope something's lost in translation, but who knows.

Me too. And I didn't even read the Korean one.

Oooh, I know this is webcomics, but wtf: many webcomics artists decided to kill off their characters or have them break up long-standing relationships this week. Ouch.

I think Octopus Pie is just finishing up a belated Halloween strip.

The QC move was telegraphed for months.  Frankly, I never entirely bought those two as a couple, and they've both been stupidly bitchy.  Not unrealistically, as many people are, in fact, prone to getting stupidly bitchy.  I'm semi-curious to see where it goes.

Plot is often overrated in these things.  The dramarama in PvP lately has been doing nothing for me, although I certainly give the strip the benefit of the doubt.  You're definitely right about the tension level out there lately, though -- it's even affected SinFest.  Might just be the time of year, although I tend to blame NaNoWriMo.
