i'm pretty sure it's real. i'm going to send it to my aunt, who has a rather large farm with lots of different crops.

(it's actually straw. hay is a grass. certain gains get cut off the top of their stalks, the straw is the stalk left over.)
you'd be surprised how much a nutsack can stretch. you have to stretch it yourself, not a woman. they don't do it quite right.

Guys, guys, come on.  A baler will kill you.  This is some viral ad for something.  The camera work is too perfect, and the bale the guy is wearing is much smaller than the other bales previously pooped out by the machine.

"Every town had at least a couple farmers who'd lost a finger or two in jammed hay balers, when the mechanism had started again suddenly and grabbed them. And they were the lucky ones, because they'd managed to get their pocket knives out, open them with their teeth, and amputate the fingers before their entire arms got pulled in. A hay baler could kill a man, and occasionally did, somewhere."

Sorry to be a buzzkill, but the vid is fake.

That was my thought, too.  The first half of that made me rather nervous.

I've told this story before, but:  When I lived in Oxford, we used to go down to the farm machinery rental place and gawk at the warning stickers on the balers and threshers and whatnot.  The machines themselves are very cool when they're not running.  But the warning stickers are awesome, showing the little silhouette guy being horribly destroyed in ways Tom Savini can only dream about.  The silhouette has no face and yet still manages to convey unearthly dismay and terror.

seriously,  a baler will rip you to shreds. we had one neighbor who fell in one.  combines are nasty critters too.  our new yorker neighbor ( we jokingly called him Mr. Dougless) was dismembered by one. very sad accident.  sorry, grew up with that type of equipment around me and i took it for granted that everyone knew it wasn't real.  the camera shaking made it look like a home video. I thought it added to the humor.

It is a funny video, don't get me wrong.  And not many people are likely to see it and then try it.

Oh hey!  Don't get me wrong!  It's a funny video.

I just hate for anybody to think that's real, but I'm a Missourian you know, "show me state" and all.  I'm just a born cynic.  It comes with the territory.

Lou Reed once sang, "Don't believe half of what you see and none of what you hear."

I try to live by that.

And now... a hay chair.
It's symbolic of our struggle against reality.

So, have you ever wondered what it would look like if Zorg made a video?

I like it but I'd be more rock and roll

Slow motion owl!

If you watch it a second time, keep your eyes on the owl's head and notice how incredibly still it is.  The owl's whole dexterity is focused on keeping the head steady to keep its vision and hearing as sharp as possible.

The wing action is phenomenal, though.
