Dang.  I don't know crap about music.
Cause you're so beautiful
Like a tree
Or a high-class prostitute
You're so beautiful
Mmm, you could be a part-time model
But you'd probably have to keep your normal job

It makes sense to me, but I took Music Theory on a lark. Should have taken it on a falcon, though.
I'm generalizing from one example here, but everyone generalizes from one example. At least, I do.

Somewhere, somehow, Pythagoras has a hardon.

When I was a kid, we had a sweet-ass electric organ (:uncertain:), and then later a piano, because my parents were masochists.  Anyway, we learned to play a few tunes by ear, mostly church music, and we quickly noticed how the octave moves up the keyboard.  Once you know how it goes, you can shift one key over -- almost -- and play the same tune slightly higher or lower.  All the way up or down until you run out of keys.

Years later, when I was in vocal training, dude would say 'now a half-step higher' or 'now a half-step lower', and I was like OMG I KNOW WHAT YOU MEAN.   Although I could never sight-read for shit.

Chords make sense differently to people who sing harmony or play one-note-at-a-time instruments, I think.  Piano or guitar, you get chords by yourself.  Voice (mostly), horns, etc, you need three people for a regular chord.  And then you're like, wait, that musical sting was a chord broken into its pieces and played in sequence.  Weird.

I wish I had learned to play an instrument back in the day, but I was always fascinated by the strange old ones that are less refined, or simple primitive ones.  Pianos and guitars and the complex modern horns and woodwinds are more fascinating to me than the electronics, mostly, because they're so accomplished.  The range of music you can play on a guitar is staggering, and stringed instruments hundreds of years ago may look kind of similar but couldn't do as much.  Same deal with the piano.

I like the low end.

Erm.  :knotty:

It's not too late to learn, but it's not the same.  If I had the money, I'd probably be going to a voice coach.  I sing compulsively, so I might as well do a better job of it.

Yes. Yes indeed, a sweet ass-electric organ.

I knew that was coming.

But, by the noise that organ made, so did the whole neighborhood.

you could join a choral group at the sk00l. there's probably a community/ university group. if you had any further needs, i'd be happy to let you use my sweet ass organ.

Yeah, it's likely there's some community thing somewhere in the area, but I'm not that social.   Plus, based on history, I need actual direct coaching to improve my singing.

Well you could make it worse and become a grindcore singer.
