 Man, I really wonder how necessary it will be for me to learn Vista in order to trouble shoot friends/family's computers. I also wonder how long I can go before I have to.

That viral compilation is pretty cool, too.

I really hate the online video viewer thing.  Personally, just let me download the file and then play it with the software of my choice, period.  But if not, then don't start playing it automatically.  I'll start it when I want to start it, and that way it can cache sufficiently to play properly.  Also, do not start playing automatically just because I paused and rewound it.  Or because I resized it.  You are not helping.

Software that thinks it knows what I want better than I do, and is wrong, is stupid software, especially if I can't tell it to cut that shit out.  Also, the VCR should not start playing a tape automatically just because I put it in the machine.  I'll damn well tell you when I want you to start.

[grr]

That looks like a bad carnival ride, but they also have one that's basically that same thing except that one side has an extra length of lever arm to make it eccentric.  So it doesn't just flip over; it moves in a complicated unpredictable and uneven fashion.  I saw it once at the Big E, and, lord, did it make people barf and cause shoes to fly off into the distance.  What a bad idea.

That ride in the video, though, clearly goes on for far, far, far too long.

I overslept this morning.  I was hitting the snooze button like it was my little sister.

Nice find!
I'm generalizing from one example here, but everyone generalizes from one example. At least, I do.

Ok, this video is really peculiar, up until about 4 minutes elapsed.

Then it goes right off the rails.

Oh my god, that was awesome.

The ad for the show coming up afterward is just priceless.

My ass hurts after sitting here for 45 minutes, but it was worth it.

One of the things I found interesting about that was his experience in Vegas. It kind of lends credence to the phenomenon we were talking about a while back in the book Blink.

Also, I never think to search Google Video for stuff. I've been meaning to mention an episode of Nova from a few weeks back about epigenetics. Fascinating stuff.

Quote
In Washington State, a researcher finds that a toxin given to rats still affects their offspring four generations later, without producing any changes in their genes. And in Sweden, a study of historical records seems to show that the lifespan of grandchildren is affected by their grandparents' access to food.

I didn't watch the whole episode, it started off kind of slow, and I got distracted, and then came back to it and saw the ending, but it's one of those moments where you realize science is on to something huge. If you're a parent, or plan to be, you should check it out. Even if you're not a parent, it might give you some insight into why you are the way you are.
It's symbolic of our struggle against reality.
