Thursday was 80 in Atlanta, breaking the record of 72 for the date, tying the record for the highest temperature in February, and it was the earliest date Atlanta hit 80 (previous was 2/15/89) since climate records have been kept.

Yeah, that's some crazy shit.  :trance:

We were at like 50 F, and then we had about an hour of 30-50 MPH winds, and the temperature dropped like this was Colorado or something.  We had a day of Can't See Anything fog and mostly not freezing rain.  Now we're back to dangerously cold, and yesterday was Ice Planet Hoth conditions of insane horizontal snow.

We were supposed to have freezing rain, mixed with snow, from 7 AM today until 10 PM tonight.

As yet, no freezing rain, no snow.

I'm not exactly complaining.  I dunno.

Probably a stupid question, but why is snow so rare in Las Vegas?

We're dealing with flooding here. Started raining yesterday and the graphic forecast is really depressing.

Because Mojave desert. It's the driest desert in North America.

Also, we're in a valley. Most precipitation doesn't make it over the mountains.

Just went outside and it's a nice balmy 38. It's not cloudy, but I heard it might snow again in the morning.

Oh, and it's not a stupid question. I forget because I grew up here. SNWA has ingrained the idea that we must conserve water for as long as I can remember. We had constant commercials that actually said, "Be smart, it's a desert out there".

They do have one of the best water reclamation programs in the country.

Well, I could have easily looked it up. I assumed it was the dryness, because I knew it got cold enough.

We just had a 30-hour 'bomb cyclone blizzard', which the authorities were quite anxious about but which mostly turned out to be not too damaging.  We got about half an inch of rain and two inches of snow, but horizontally, with 35-60 MPH wind.

Appropriate precautions were taken, and we stayed home except for going to check on the neighbors' cats.  Ray's rental property had its power line come down and knock some siding off the house, but that's the worst damage to anyone I know personally, that I've heard of yet.

The pressure outside went up so much that the winterizing plastic film on the inside of our windows ballooned out hilariously / alarmingly like I've never seen before.  :nonplused:  It's all stretched out, now, so I'll have to apply the hair dryer again.

Cool. You went from 1024mb to 987mb in 24 hours. I've seen it come close to that when hurricanes pass nearby here.

It was quite a series of changes.  Everything felt a little tense.
